This Leather is made from the hides of cows that were grown here in Australia. It is a by-product of the meat industry. Most of the hides are exported and processed overseas or dumped in landfill. Only a minimal percentage of Australian cows are processed by Australian tanneries. This Leather has a minimal carbon footprint. It is “Veg Tanned” which means it is tanned the traditional way with natural products like tree bark and vegetable matter; no toxic chemicals!
Its hand made locally with love.
There will be marks and scuffs on these leather products. I don’t avoid them when I make the piece. This is because it is part of the animal’s story. This cow grew up on acreage in Victoria, eating grass, getting bit by Australian bugs, and occasionally getting scratched by tree branches or barbed wire fences. When I select the leather I use, it is with the intention of love and respect for the animal it came from and honour the soul that once inhabited it.
These pieces are all made the long slow way.
The leather is hand cut, hand tooled, hand dyed, painted, antiqued and sealed. then its hand sewn. It’s not always efficient doing things this way, but it’s the only way to pump maximum love and patience into each piece
